What Are Insulation Jackets?

Insulation jackets are engineered thermal barriers designed to protect critical components from extreme temperatures, environmental exposure, and fire-related risks. At Nutec Protective Concepts, our custom insulation jackets are tailored for high-performance applications across the oil & gas industry delivering both thermal efficiency and PFP passive fire protection jacket when needed.

Each custom insulation jacket is composed of three key layers:

1. Outer Protective Cover
A rugged, fire-resistant exterior designed to withstand harsh industrial environments. This outer shell defends against moisture, UV exposure, chemical splashes, and physical abrasion, extending the life of both the jacket and the underlying equipment.

2. Insulation Mat
The core layer is crafted from high-performance ceramic fiber insulation, selected for its superior thermal resistance. The thickness and density are customized to meet your exact temperature and PFP passive fire protection jacket requirements, including compliance with UL1709 standards.

3. Inner Liner
A durable internal barrier that holds the insulation in place and shields it from internal threats such as fluid leaks, steam, or particulate contaminants. This layer also contributes to the overall structural integrity of the custom insulation jacket.

ProSol™ PFP vs. Coating Systems

ProSol™ PFP jacket system chemical resistance is completely unaffected by most chemicals that they are likely to come in contact with during their service life.

- Kerosene

- Diesel Fuel

- Acids (General)

- Jet Fuels

Coating Systems cannot be field applied or removed and can create serious corrosion problems leading to stress cracking and possible premature equipment failures. These problems can undermine the integrity of the fire proofing and cause damage to your equipment.

Our Custom Insulation Jackets are designed to fit a wide range of equipment, including:

Valves

Actuators

Flanges

Piping and Associated Equipment

Process Vessels

Wellheads

Riser Tensioners

Cable Trays

Bulkheads

Custom Insulation Jackets - Guaranteed Performance

Not all fireproofing solutions are built for long-term performance or operational flexibility. Traditional methods like molded-on coatings often come with serious limitations like permanent fixings, difficult design for inspections, and impossible to service without damaging the system. Over time, these coatings can trap moisture, accelerating corrosion under the insulation, and leading to premature cracking or equipment failure. This compromises both safety and the reliability of your PFP Passive Fire Protection infrastructure.

Box-type enclosures present another set of challenges. Their rigid, bulky design can make field access complicated and time-consuming, often requiring full equipment shutdowns and labor-intensive disassembly. Each access event typically involves seal replacements, increasing maintenance costs and creating additional downtime. In corrosive or high-moisture environments, these rigid systems may also fail to adequately protect underlying insulation.

ProSol™: A Smarter, Safer Solution

Our custom insulation jackets offer a superior approach to PFP passive fire protection. The ProSol™ PFP system is engineered for flexibility, performance, and reusability. Unlike fixed systems, ProSol™ installs directly onto your equipment—no external brackets or mounts required. Its modular, lightweight construction conforms precisely to your components while maintaining full access and visibility for inspections and maintenance.

Designed to perform under the most extreme conditions, ProSol™ PFP passive fire protection provides robust, code-compliant fire protection without compromising operational uptime. Its removable and reusable design allows teams to access equipment quickly and reinstall the system with ease, minimizing interruptions and maximizing efficiency over the long term.

Proper Installation is Key to the Performance of ProSol™ PFP Passive Fire Protection Jackets
The effectiveness of PFP passive fire protection jackets depends not only on product design but also on correct selection and installation. Our custom insulation jackets are engineered for precision and ease-of-use in demanding industrial environments. Proper installation ensures that the flame barrier remains continuous, reliable, and ready to perform in critical scenarios. Thanks to our modular design, ProSol™ jackets can be installed quickly and securely with minimal tools, reducing downtime and ensuring safety. General Installation Process:
1
Pre-Installation Check
Verify that all custom insulation jacket components are accounted for and free of damage.
Review installation drawings or labels for orientation guidance.
2
Ensure Safe Working Conditions
Confirm all safety protocols, PPE, permits, and secure access to the equipment are in place.
3
Position Jacket Sections
Place each section over the PFP passive fire protection equipment, aligning flaps and contours with structural features and penetrations.
4
Connect Closure System
Begin securing Velcro flaps to contour the custom insulation jacket snugly around the protected part.
5
Adjust for Fit
Pat and reposition the jacket to ensure it settles evenly over any uneven surfaces or protrusions.
6
Tighten and Secure
Thread straps through D-rings, loop back, and pull tight. Tuck excess strap length into belt loops.
7
Seal Openings
Wrap and secure the custom insulation jacket cuffs around piping or penetrations using Velcro, straps, or a combination of both.
8
Final Inspection
Inspect for any gaps, misalignments, or exposed areas. Loosen and adjust flaps or straps as needed for a seamless, airtight fit.
Installation Order Matters: To maintain the continuity of the PFP passive fire protection barrier, follow this sequence:
1
Piping
2
Valves and/or Flange Covers
3
Actuators and/or Gearbox Covers
4
Spring Return Actuators
Install cylinder covers first, followed by the control box cover
